Meet Our Staff
The Rev. Dr. Robert Stelter
Pastor Bob has served as Senior Pastor at Faith Lutheran Church since 2000. Under his guidance, the congregation has experienced growth in membership, facilities, ministries, benevolence giving and staff.
He initiated the following programs at Faith Lutheran Church: multi-campus ministry and formation of a new congregation in Tellico Village; support of foreign missionaries; Stephen Ministry; Via de Cristo and Teens Encounter Christ retreat ministries; prison ministries; seminary partnership; teen and adult mission trips; healing services; contemporary worship; expanded confirmation instruction; support of Knoxville Adaptive Education Center; addition of kindergarten and facility expansion of the Faith Early Learning Center/Faith Academy; building expansion, including the largest sanctuary in the Southeastern Synod; new constitution and by-laws; personnel manual; new congregational mission and vision; and much more.
Pastor Bob holds two doctoral degrees, a Doctor of Ministry (1995) from the Graduate Theological Foundation with studies at Notre Dame University and Columbia Seminary and a Doctor of Philosophy (1997) from Slidell Baptist Seminary with studies at New Orleans Baptist Seminary. He hold Advanced Standing in Clinical Pastoral Education, having served a two year residency at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a certified counselor, with with extensive training in addictions recovery and family systems. He served as Camp Director of Lutheran Camp Chrysalis and Program Director of Lutheran Association of Southwestern Camping in Texas (1980-83.) He served as youth minister at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas (1982-3) and at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago (1987-88.) He holds a Masters of Divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (1988) with studies at the University of Chicago and a Bachelors degree from Texas Lutheran University (1981.) He served as pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Rosenberg, Texas (1988-94) and Senior Pastor of All Saints Lutheran Church in Lilburn, Georgia (1994-2000.)
His vision for Faith Lutheran Church includes continued growth numerically, organizationally and spiritually. His term has seen a growing diversity among members and worship styles. He continues to lead the congregation to new ministries and outreach opportunities as the fulfillment of a simple congregational mission, "Love God, Love Others, Serve."
Pastor Bob is a native Texan who enjoys the outdoors, especially fishing and hiking.
Each Sunday morning, Pastor Bob greets the congregation with these words: "The joy of the Lord is our strength!" (Nehemiah 8:10)
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Office management, staff support, administrative support including finance administration for the church and school, personnel management, records keeping, communications, facility/grounds management, special projects and event organization.
Mary has served as office manager at Faith Lutheran Church since July, 1999. In 1985 she graduated from National University in San Diego,CA. She has a background in administration and finance beginning in 1974 with an 11 year tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps having multifaceted responsibilities in duty stations located across the United States and abroad. Mary continued her career employed as the Vice President of Administration with 3 financial institutions in Southern California. In 1989 she accepted a position with a commercial printing company in southern California where for 9 years where she managed the office, assisted with production schedules and customer service as well as property management of business owned assets. Before coming to Tennessee, she spent a brief time with Isuzu Motors of America as an information systems coordinator and with H & R Block as a Certified Tax Preparer Instructor while earning a secondary teaching credential. In 1997 she began a career with CAE Vanguard, a Canadian-owned corporation at their Knoxville plant where in addition to office management, her duties involved traveling to various U.S.based railroad transportation service plants to develop operation and maintenance procedures and ISO-2000 compliance documentation.
Mary grew up in Jeffersontown, a suburb of Louisville, Kentucky and at age 18, enlisted in the Marine Corps and attained the rank of gunnery sergeant and served honorably until 1985. Her husband, Ron, grew up in Alcoa, Tennessee, enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 18 and is now a retired Sergeant Major. The Borings met in Iwakuni, Japan and were married in August 1983 in Palm Springs. Their son, Sam attends the University of Tennessee. Her family also includes Ron’s daughter, Angie who lives in Dallas, Texas and his son, Chip, daughter-in-law, Beth and granddaughters: Raegan, Brooke, Brittany and Ashley and 2 great grandsons, Remington and Devlin.
