Did you know that in Knox County alone, the poverty rate is 14.3%, which impacts a staggering 60,730 people?
Did you know that most people in our area are part of the working poor? These are people who, although employed, struggle to make ends meet on a day to day basis. They can be anyone: our neighbor, our co-worker, the person we sit next to in worship.
Living out of our new sense of mission with a focus on service, we have felt God’s call to develop a community food pantry located at Faith Lutheran Church supported by our area churches and community groups.
The Shepherd of Hope Food Pantry seeks to provide daily bread to equip people for life in Jesus’ name. Daily bread carries all types of meaning: physical nourishment, spiritual guidance and community.
We rely on you, our brothers and sisters in Christ, to help stock our pantry full so we can begin to care for our neighbors. Below is a full list of the items we regularly stock in the pantry. Monetary donations are always welcome! You can place your donations on the Food Pantry table located in the Narthex. For large food donations, please contact Jan Darnell in advance to help us plan to have volunteers to assist you.
We now have over 110 regular volunteers! You are welcome to join us to help stock the pantry, as well as assist and volunteer when the pantry is open. If you’re interested in serving, please contact Jan Darnell.
We are open monthly to the community:
1st Monday, 3pm-5pm and 3rd Monday, 3pm-7pm
If Knox County Schools are closed due to inclement weather we will not be open.
