What is a Lutheran?

We believe in the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and confess that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. We are all sinners saved by grace through faith in Christ, and since Jesus came into the world to save sinners, all are invited to share in His love.

Core Beliefs

Grace

Grace is God’s unconditional love, forgiveness, presence, power, and righteousness given to us without requiring favors, actions, or efforts. God’s forgiveness is freely given by God to all people.

Jesus

“We are justified by grace through faith for Christ’s sake”. We recognize that Jesus alone is the deliverer of this great, unearned gift, because of his ultimate sacrifice on the cross.

Faith

Faith is not about how much we know or how fervently we believe. It is being open and engaging in this holy relationship and trusting in God’s promise of forgiveness and unconditional love.

Scripture

We read Scripture as a living source of faith, and celebrate the unique gifts every person brings. As those called to follow Jesus, we center around the greatest commands, which are to love God and love others.
Our church body’s founder, Martin Luther, famously said, “God doesn’t need our good works, but our neighbors sure do!” As followers of Jesus at Faith Lutheran Church, we are aware on a daily basis of God’s grace and love in our lives.

Because of all God does for us, our hearts are continually drawn to give thanks by serving others. We believe Matthew 25:35-36 still holds true – that when we serve hurting people, we are serving Jesus.

Meet Pastor Bob

The Lutheran emphasis is always on God’s grace. To be Lutheran is to be realistic when it comes to God and salvation. I never will be good enough to please God and earn my salvation. Even though I’m not good enough, I know that Christ was good enough to die for my shortcomings, failures and sins. So, I live with grace. My standing before God has already been settled and accomplished by Jesus. This frees me to live in ways that glorify God and help others. I try to be good and do good, of course. But I’m not good enough to make God love me. I do good because God loves me. Being saved by grace is real and liberating.
